YOUNG MOMS MARIN (YMM)

Young Moms Marin (YMM) is a support group that provides parenting and personal support to teen and young mothers. We offer a wide variety of parent education and support based on the significant needs of the young parents.  YMM guides young moms, ages 13 – 26 yrs.  We work towards developing new opportunities: learning new skills and building individual capacity. Through YMM, young moms are encouraged to complete their education, seek stable employment, and offered information and support focused on how to care for, and nurture their children.

The YMM group can become close, sharing intimate and difficult aspects of daily life. Sometimes the group feels like family, while providing parent education that could include; child development, nutrition, safety & first aid, parenting strategies, sleep patterns, and other challenging topics often determined by the moms to be important for raising healthy babies and families.

As young parents, young moms face many obstacles beyond what is typical for a young person to navigate naturally. Young Moms Marin helps tackle these issues as well, from food scarcity to housing issues. A core feeling of the group’s success is the mutual support the young moms build amongst themselves and their supported ability to access community resources and the information they may need to succeed.

Young Moms Marin welcomes moms with their children and provides a safe play area, for friendship and learning. For many of the children this is their first interaction with other children that are not family or living with them.
